Paushali Sahu breathes new life into timeless melodies

Paushali Sahu, the soulful singer hailing from Kolkata, has recently paid a dual tribute to the legendary Hemanta Mukherjee through two captivating releases on Saregama.

Her final release of 2023 is a haunting reprise of ‘Tum Pukaar Lo,’ originally composed by Hemanta Mukherjee for the 1969 film Khamoshi. This rendition showcases Paushali’s ability to breathe new life into timeless melodies, keeping the essence of the song untouched. The music arrangement is by Mandeep Kumar, and the accompanying video on YouTube, directed by Nilargha Banerjee enhances the tribute visually.

Starting off 2024 with another remarkable release on Saregama, Paushali presents a captivating rendition of ‘Dheere Dheere Machal’ from the 1966 Hrishikesh Mukherjee classic Anupama. Originally composed by Hemanta Mukherjee with lyrics by Kaifi Azmi and sung by Lata Mangeshkar, the rendition by Paushali captured the hearts of retro-music enthusiasts across social media.

Coming from a musical lineage, Paushali began her musical journey with traditional Bengali music, Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul geeti. Despite a detour into the corporate world, she returned to music as a full-time artist. Her releases with prominent music labels, transitioning from reprises to originals, have found resonance with music lovers globally.

Her upcoming collaboration is with the reputed composer Jeet Gannguli, marking her debut Bangla song, set to be released by Zee Music Bangla. Paushali is also working on some experimental projects close to her heart, reflecting the continuous evolution of her musical journey.
